Health services are a basic necessity. However, private companies have made them quite costly for ordinary individuals.

 

Do the advantages of private health care outweigh its disadvantages?

 

 

Health services are meant to avail by individuals once they feel they need them and to have a healthy life, they want to get such services. Private companies on the other hand have commercialized the whole health sector which has affected it in various ways. Advantages could be, it has become more intense and focused for patients and better professionals with expertise in their domain are available for patients, however on the flip side, due to its fierce commercialization, an ordinary individual has to pay a whopping amount to have these facilities.

 

First benefit of existing private healthcare professionals in the healthcare sector is, they are prompt and focused in providing such services to people. Unlike government hospitals in countries like India, they are quick to take action and better equipped to give best to patients. For example, private clinics are having better hygiene, latest equipment and advance facilities to address any kind of medical emergency. Therefore, facility wise and technology wise they are far better than conventional public healthcare institutions.

 

Another plus point in favor of private healthcare companies is, they work on maximizing profits in each financial quarter as a result they hire highly educated and vastly experienced doctors to serve patients which is commonly next to impossible in public hospitals especially in rural and under-developed economies. For example, in metropolitans like Gurugram, Mohali, Bengaluru and Ahmedabad, one can find best doctors for all kind of medical issues readily available at all times. Hence, this presence of private players in healthcare has taken the standards of doctors and their availability for general public on an unprecedented level.

 

On the contrary, the one major drawback of accessing such private healthcare facilities is, ordinary people have to pay gigantic amount of money to get treated by them. Normally, what happens is, a major disease if it reaches to big private hospitals and the patient is a common man or a hand to mouth kind of individual, then he has to empty his pockets just to avail that treatment. Why because, these hospitals never compromise on their standards and charges, they behave equally to all irrespective of their financial health. Due to this high cost of treatment, many a times ordinary people have to stay away from getting such advance facilities for their health issues. This is really worrisome.

 

All in all, benefits are more for society due to presence of private healthcare players but the high cost of getting such services for ordinary people is a big disadvantage which cannot be ignored.
