 QUESTION PROMT

Health services are a basic necessity. However, private companies have made them quite costly for ordinary individuals.

Do the advantages of private health care outweigh its disadvantages?

Solution

Introduction

Health care, food and shelter are the basic needs of every human being. Life takes a halt if any one of them misses for a person. Healthcare undoubtedly has become better with the presence of private players but also, it has made it a costly affair for common people. In this essay, I will shed light on how disadvantages are more than advantages when healthcare is provided by private companies.

BODY PARA 1

First major drawback is, they take health of a person and his disease as a product or commodity, their first aim is to maximize their profits and revenues. Irrespective of looking at health with a frame of mind that with minimum money and minimum time, we have to heal this individual, they think of keeping the patient as long as in their custody so that bills and payment from patients’ family can be optimized. For example, I have seen countless patients during covid era, visited private hospitals just thinking it will prompt their treatment and will help them get rid of the virus but they were kept in hospitals for long spans and the saddest part of the story had been, most of them lost their lives in that battle while their family members lost their life time savings to pay the hospital authorities. This situation must be reversed if the hospital patient went to public hospitals since their entire aim is not to make money. Thus, this dark side of private healthcare operators cannot be overlooked.

BODY PARA 2

Another shortcoming of private companies offering healthcare amenities is, they invest hugely to construct high-class buildings, recruit biggest names of medical line, buy latest equipment and on top of all, marketize their brand by spending millions so when they finally receive a customer or so-called patient, they endeavor their best to balance their investment first and then to take out profits. Unlike public hospitals, they aim not to treat more and more with less and less investment. Their business model does not allow them to operate like government funded hospitals. Thus, for a person who is having a hand to mouth kind of lifestyle, such private institutions are out of his reach.

BODY PARA 3

The only good thing that I see in the existence of private players of healthcare sector is, they have taken diagnosis and treatment of various illnesses to a whole new level. It is true, they charge handsomely but sometimes they succeed in saving life of a patient who has been suffering from some serious illness. Even if he belongs to a poor or middle-class family still his family somehow affords the money but the ultimate consequence is, his life is saved. If life is saved although at the cost of high investment but still it is worth-saving. Therefore, private medical companies do their best with all state-of-the-art facilities to protect a life which is sometimes absent in public hospitals due to lack of facilities.

CONCLUSION

In this essay, I have written about how private players of the healthcare offer more demerits than merits to common men.
