Dear IELTS takers worldwide,
Hope you must be doing well in your IELTS preparation, to help you in scoring optimum we time to time provide you relevant stuff. Today, one of the genius students Mr. Ajay Bura had an interaction with Team Millennium and some of the key insights came out from the interaction, those are being shared with you:
His score was 8.5 in listening and here are his strategies:
1. Practice was a key thing, especially for those who are not from a so called English background.
2. I did twice listening every day till my final exam for one and half month.
3. Listening exam comprise of few patterns and there are few tricks to achieve the highest, like
Questions : one word answer type of questions:
1. There are the most easy type of questions, if you want to achieve 8+ bands you have to correct all of these.
2. They are the most easy questions in listening. You can correct all questions of this category.
3. Follow these tricks to answer them like (such questions are found on the first page and questions like name, address, model name, postal address so he speaks them clearly and slowly.)
NOTE : Patience and concentration required most in these type of questions.
4. These type of questions can be found on last page in the ending of last section may be in form of process or fill in the blanks. 5 to 10 questions are like this in the paper.
5. Mostly the time gap between two answers is sufficient for a student to not to get puzzled.
Second Category is, two or more than two words,
If these type of questions found in last section of listening in the form of fill in the blanks or in form of process or description of anything, it has more chances that the examiner will spell them swiftly (fastly).
Note: if the examiner is speaking fastly and you missed any blank due to any condition like mostly by lose of concentration then do not wait for the answer. This will surely snatch time from other blanks and the whole paragraphs, it may be possible you skip the whole paragraph. So, if you find it very puzzling or you don't find line that you are expecting him to speak, you can skip that and move to next question. This type of question contains generally 15 questions out of 40.
For MCQ types,
This type of questions are considered the most difficult section of paper if you got success in correcting at least 70 % of this type then you can easily get 8.5+ bands. ( Although not 8.5 but we expect 100 % from you in such questions.)
Some kind of tricks are: 1. there is a word called "but" and "not" in most of the cases these 2 words tells us the answer if you are not able to properly listen or understand the language of question. Because in such questions, there is an intense conversation which most students find difficult to understand.
Note:
1. If the examiners spell "but" in his conversation then you have to listen the line of conversation after the word but and in 95% cases, it is the answer of your question if given in 4 options.
2. In some questions, examiners spell all the three or four options of the questions and this confuses the students that which is the right answer of the question. In this type of question, he will spell a line from your options with the use of word "not" in that line fastly (students find difficult to listen that word that is not and they started thinking that the line spelled by the examiner purely matches one of the options and after ticking that they get fooled by the examiner.) so if a line is spoken clearly by an examiner then you must be sure that it does not contain the word "not".
3. 70% the correct answer is spoken in the end of conversation provided "but and not" are spoken here for these lines.
For Map:
In these type of questions students get puzzled because the examiner try to puzzle the students with speaking unwanted extra words in the speaking. but, students need not be worry the line in which the correct answer is given will be spoken by the examiner clearly which is easy to understand. Students have to remained patient to listen the unwanted sentences in the conversation.
The questions which contain the time are little bit confusing because the examiner will speak lot of unwanted words but he will clearly spell the time which is quite easy to understand so don't get puzzled by the unwanted talk of the examiner.
Note: the examiner will speak the answers in a sequence resonating with the sequence of questions. Likewise, answer of 7th question will come after answer of 6th. It is strictly followed in the complete listening module.
