INFORMAL LETTER SAMPLE

Your friend has been offered a place on a course at the university where you studied. He/she would like your advice about finding a place to live.

Write an email to your friend. In your email

·         Describe where you lived when you were a student at the university

·         Recommend the best way for him/her to look for accommodation

·         Warn him/her of mistakes students make when choosing accommodation

A POSSIBLE SOLUTION

Dear Seema,

Hi, how’re you? I get to know the good news that you’re coming in university of Toronto which is also my alma mater. It’s been long time since we met. I’m well and doing great in my life. I’m writing this letter to help you know about how to find a suitable place to live.

It makes me delighted when I recall my memory about my place where I did stay. I was living with a lovely family of 4. There were two elders, two children. It was about 2 miles away from my university so reaching to university was fairly easy for me. I had a room and separate wash room to use. Indeed, it was a newly built home.

From my experience, I can tell you that there is a website or mobile app known as gumtree.com which is a great way to search a place to live nearby university campus. You need to install that app and register yourself with your phone number and email. It will keep you posted all the available accommodations in all price ranges and different facilities. It’s a best way to get a great place to live especially for students.

Lastly, I would like to caution you about things that generally students do and end up feeling miserable. Kindly do not go for accommodation options which are far away from university as it will be tough for you to travel in routine. Additionally, prefer taking a place where somebody stays at home every time, it will fortify you and your belongings security. Being a friend, I feel like I should tell you such things in advance.
