FORMAL LETTER SAMPLE

Mrs. Barrett an English-speaking women who lives in your town, has advertised for someone to help her in her home for a few days next summer.

Write a letter to Mrs. Barrett. In your letter

·         Suggest how you could help her in her home

·         Say why you would like to do this work

·         Explain when you will and will not be available

Sample answer:

Dear Madam,

I am writing this letter in response of your advertisement that I have seen in The Sydney Herald last Sunday. It was about asking for someone who can assist you in your domestic chores for a certain span of time. I consider myself an appropriate candidate for that. This letter is in this regard only.

Firstly, I would like to inform you that I am well-equipped with the know-how of all domestic works. You can give me tasks like making food, taking care of kids, managing groceries, dusting the furniture and gardening works too. I genuinely feel that with my help, you can be relaxed and do more in things that you are aiming to do.  

Second comes the reason why I am willing to do this, I am studying here in Australia and back in India, I had been using Hindi my mother tongue in my day to day communication. While working at your home, I will be learning English in a way that native speakers use it consistently. Undoubtedly, you will pay for my time and efforts also. But my major concern is, learning the language deeply and getting comfortable with domestic Australian culture.

Lastly, I guess it will be better for me to inform you about my availability since I am a student at Monash university in IT program so in coming summer, for first two days of the week, I will be occupied with my lecture works and will not be able to give my time. But for remaining 5 days, I will have freedom to spend my time at your home, assisting you. In next summer, for most of my time, I am free. Eventually, you can consider that I will be a huge help to you.
